A Traditional Family Day was organized by KCWA at IAC Funaitees, Kuwait on 21st May 99.

The Fund raising Luncheon, organized to support the First in the World, KCWA / SASS Computer School for the Disabled. The premises is being constructed by KCWA at Mangalore India, in association with St. Agnes Special School, Bendur, Mangalore. About 1100 persons braved the dust & heat to grace the event.

Family Fraternity was the Theme of the Day.

ZARI SARI competition (Picture)

Ladies in Sarees, pussy footed the CATWALK for the first time in Kuwait.

Participants were gifted with a slice of threaded Fresh Pangla Jasmine Flowers.

CUSTOMS & RITUALS (picture) of the Traditional Marriage were highlighted.

The audience was spell bound by touching Scenes of ROCE (pre-nuptials rites)

And "SOVEAR BOSUHN OPSUHN DIUCHEM" (Giving away of the Bride)

The community consciousness of the ancestors was punctuated with distant Family bringing in WOJENH (Contribution in kind to share the burden of marriage costs)

The Newly elected Executive committee (1999 - 2001) decked in Traditional costumes, made their debut on stage as guests at the Marriage ceremony and were presented to The KCWA Family.

ADMIRATION for SENIOR CITIZENS - MALGHADIANK MORYADH

Senior citizens were awarded the Respect & Admiration that they rightfully deserved. They led the audience to Lunch, which were served on fresh Banana leaves and pampered with POLOV (traditional dish)

 

CHILDREN’S DRAWING COMPETITION & CHOREOGRAPHY

The stage was spiked with fancy foot-work by children in dazzling choreography. Earlier in the day, winners of the Singing & Drawing Competition were awarded prizes.

The audience commended KCWA for ushering in the Nostalgia, by highlighting the richness of Konkani Culture and Traditions.
